The Words of Jesus -- Wisdom for Engaging Life

Description:  Perhaps no individual in the history of the world has had a more profound effect on our time than Jesus.  Even though the circumstances of his time were substantially different than those of today, his understanding of human nature and his methods of teaching are as applicable now as they were 2000 years ago.  

Unfortunately, the words of Jesus have been distorted by those that would have us believe that we are not the children of God, that we are born to eternal damnation and subject to the whims of a vengeful god.  But that message is contrary to what Jesus, himself, taught.

The Words of Jesus will explore the origins of the Gospels, recent extensive studies that have shed light on their authenticity, and the context and methods of teaching to let the participant come to his or her own conclusions about the meaning of Jesus' words.

Fulfills voting membership class prerequisites.

Duration:  4 weeks, one two-hour session each week.

Tuition:  $25

Materials Required:  The Bible is required.  Any translation with which you are comfortable is appropriate.  The New Revised Standard Version is used by the instructor.  The Metaphysical Bible Dictionary (cost $29.95 plus tax) and The Revealing Word (cost $13.95 plus tax), both by Charles Fillmore, will be provided for your use during the class.  If you are a serious student of New Thought, both of these are excellent additions to your library.  The Five Gospels by Funk, Hoover and The Jesus Seminar (cost $21.95 plus tax) will be a valuable additional resource.  Each of these may be purchased at the time of registration.
