What Part of ONE Don't You Understand? -- A Workshop About Basic Human Differences
![]()
Description:
“It takes all kinds of people to make a world.”
“Everybody’s ignorant, only on different subjects.” Will Rogers, 1926
“We are the ones we have been waiting for.” June Jordan, 1980
The idea of humanity as being ONE entity is not a new concept, but it is an idea whose time has come. It has become clear that the future of our world is dependent upon how well we understand ourselves and each other and how we relate as one.
This one-day workshop is based on well-established and ongoing research regarding the most common types of diversity among humans. To know how and why people are “different” can help us to better communicate with each other and to better appreciate the value of a wide variety of perspectives and abilities.
“What Part of ONE Don’t You Understand?” focuses on differences in types of intelligence; gender differences; and why the formative “teen years” (actually, ages 11 to 25!) are the way they are. In addition, the workshop includes newly-published research on how human interactions—even the most casual, distanced, or unnoticed—are continuously affecting us and shaping us.
Information provided in the workshop will be based on the following books and other relevant research, as well as participant discussion:
Intelligence Reframed: Multiple Intelligences for the 21st Century [2000] by Howard Gardner
The Tending Instinct: Women, Men, and the Biology of Relationships [2003] by Shelley E. Taylor
