Keep a True Lent -- a New Look at the Lenten Season
![]()
Description: The Lenten season, likely established as early as the fourth century by either Athanasius or Ambrose, has come to reflect an apostolic tradition of "denying oneself" to achieve a greater appreciation of God's presence. Charles Fillmore, the co-founder of Unity, presents a Lenten observance based upon the denying of negative thought. In the seventeen chapters of his book, Keep a True Lent, he presents the practice and metaphysics of Lent. In the forty-eight lessons (Sunday is traditionally excluded from the "forty days of Lent"), recommended readings and daily lessons are provided to help the student maintain this period of spiritual practice to achieve a greater appreciation of God's presence.
