A Course in Miracles -- Mystical Christianity for Today

Description:  The teachings of A Course in Miracles may be referred to as contemporary Christian mysticism.  It provides a discipline of study that, if followed, will lead one to an accelerated transformation of consciousness.

The facilitator of the class does not teach; his/her responsibility is to merely keep the discussion centered on the Course.  An important principle of the Course is that we have our Teacher and Guide, the Holy Spirit, within us;  a primary purpose of the Course to help each student get in touch with that indwelling Teacher.  So the class is taught by the Holy Spirit -- and miraculous learning occurs.

It is composed of three books in one volume:  the Text, the Workbook and the Manual for Teachers.  All three books are studied concurrently with a schedule of assignments designed to take the student through the material in one year.  While the Text goes to great lengths to discuss each of the principles of the Course, the real learning occurs in the practice of the lessons of the Workbook.  Therefore, a disciplined approach to the Workbook will yield the greatest benefit to the student.

Each lesson contains specific instructions for its practice -- the number and frequency of repetitions of the thought for the day, the setting in which it is to be practiced, etc.  Each lesson should be practiced, in sequence, for one day.  No lessons should be skipped and no more than one lesson should be attempted on any day.  Therefore, if a day of practice is missed, it is important for the student to continue the practice with the lesson following the last one practiced.  If the student is willing to commit to this disciplined approach, the Course will yield an extraordinary transformation of consciousness.

Each weekly class is structured to include an opening meditation, followed by small group discussions of the assignment and each student's experience with the application of the Course in her or his life that week.  The two hour class is concluded with a closing circle.

Are you ready to change your life?  Are you ready to commit yourself to the process?  If so, enroll in this class.

Scheduled to Begin:  Tuesday, March 17, 2009.  If interested, please contact the facilitator, Jeff Graef, at graef.jeff@comcast.net.

Duration:  1 year.  It is not required that the participant commit to the full year of study.  But it is highly recommended that one should not begin the Course unless she/he is willing to commit to the first 60 lessons (i.e. two months if each daily lesson is completed as scheduled).

While the Course is not for everyone, it is an extremely effective set of consciousness-lifting tools for those with whom it resonates.  The first two months of the material can create substantial resistance to the new student as the "excavation" of the debris of our old thought system occurs (in fact, it is common to experience some form of resistance during this period).  This "excavation" is followed by a "foundation-laying" period in which notable gains in experiencing a new way of being occurs -- often this is in the form of greater peace and more joy.  Discarding the Course prior to giving it time to be constructive may prematurely and inappropriately relegate it to the "been there, done that, not going back" category of experiences.  Hence, we make the request that you commit to the first 60 lessons before deciding upon the appropriateness of the Course for you.

Tuition:  $20 registration + $30/month payable monthly in advance.  Class by class payment is $20 registration + $10 per class.
