Video system update: Living Water Unity has been getting a considerable amount of publicity with the Association of Unity Churches (AUC) regarding our putting our Sunday video on the web. The AUC has decided to inform people that are inquiring of them about the location of a nearby church to give them our web address if they do not have a local Unity church in their vicinity. They are also giving our web address to people who want to form Study Groups as a means of getting a Unity message in the absence of a "live" Unity speaker. There are also 80-100 study groups already in place that do not have a regular Unity speaker. In conversations with the founder of PositiveChristianity.org, an on-line prayer ministry formed 3 years ago, Rev. Chris Chenowith (the founder) was extremely supportive of our efforts to extend the Unity message to the Internet community. In fact, he is sending us a tithe to support our efforts (amount not known). His web site has stimulated a daily subscription list of 538,000 people that receive his Daily Inspirations.
There were/are several reasons for putting the Sunday talk video on the web site: 1) to allow congregants to keep in touch with talks when absent from a Sunday service because of illness, travel or other high priority "life events," 2) to allow congregants to easily and comfortably recommend the church to their friends, 3) to support the Sunday School teacher that has "duty" that particular Sunday, 4) to support present or potential "students" of Unity that are not located near a Unity church (anywhere the Internet is available).
An aspect of the video that diminishes its use on a frequent and repetitive basis (particularly by "remote" viewers) is that 30-40 minutes of a single camera video is visually very boring. If we are to seriously address the "remote viewers" and to stimulate the friends of congregants to come to our church, we need to upgrade the quality of our video production. The quality and visual interest of the video will be greatly enhanced with multiple cameras, a variety of camera angles and zoom levels, the inclusion of multiple segments in the video and smooth transitions between them.
In light of the encouragement of the local publicity generated by the Rocky Mountain News article of May 6 and the national support by the AUC, the Board has decided to upgrade the quality of the video product produced. The Board has decided to lease a three camera video system with video switcher and recording equipment for not more than $175 per month."
Motion by DR, second by PS. CJ & KJ abstain.
